why does my guitar notes sound different?

i just started playing electric guitar and i started watching guitar lessons online on youtube. however, when i try to play back what the guy plays, it sounds really different, like each note is in a different pitch. i know that the guitar is in tune because i have a tuner and i checked. can anyone think of any possible reasons for this?

the guitar also hasn’t been touched for 3 years and so the strings hasn’t been replaced either. is there anything else besides the strings that could go bad when a guitar is left alone for that long?
